Jefferson police on the lookout for suspicious man seen at school bus stop

Police in Jefferson say quick thinking by a city school bus driver might have diverted a possible abduction this week.

According to information on the Jefferson Police Department Facebook page, a school bus stopped on Jett Roberts Road to drop off two siblings after school.

"A grey, 4 door car was parked just up from the bus stop. An older, balding white male with grey hair was driving the vehicle. The male called out to the two children and attempted to get them to come get into his vehicle," the social media post said.

The man reportedly called the two children by name, but the children did not recognize him, according to police, nor did the school bus driver.

"The bus driver did not let the children off the bus and instead called their mother. The vehicle then drove off. The mother advised that she did not send anybody to the bus stop to pick up her children," the post continued.

Police said the bus camera was unable to get clear video of the vehicle, but police have released a still photo from the camera. They are asking anyone who might have information to call investigators at 706-367-5231.
