Barrow authorities search for driver in fatal hit-and-run

A pedestrian was struck and killed in Statham Monday morning, and Barrow County sheriff's deputies were looking for the driver responsible at last report.

At 8:11 a.m. a gray or silver Infinity struck and killed Marvin Barnes, 66, of Statham at 52 Jefferson Road, said Maj. Ryan Sears, Barrow County Sheriff's Office spokesman, in a statement.

The car is said to be between the model years of 2006 and 2013, possibly a G35 or G36 model. It's a four-door car, and was last spotted turning onto Arnold Road, said Sears.

"The investigation has revealed that Barnes was walking his dog approximately 6-8 feet off of the roadway when the suspect vehicle lost control and left the roadway, striking him," said Sears.

The dog was also killed in the collision.

Anyone with information on the vehicle, which would have heavy front- and rear-end damage, are asked to contact Barrow County Sheriff's Investigator J.D. Gann at (770) 307-7669, where callers can remain anonymous if they choose.
