Fire destroys home on Lake Yonah in Tallulah Falls

Investigators are working today to determine the cause and origin of the fire that destroyed a home on Lake Yonah in Tallulah Falls Monday morning.

Units from Tallulah Falls Fire Department, Tallulah Falls Police Department and Habersham County Emergency Services were dispatched to a reported fire at 600 Bay Shadow Road at 9:20 a.m. Monday.

When the first unit arrived at the remote location at 9:32 a.m., he reported a 1,000-square-foot structure already on the ground and smoldering, according to Habersham County Emergency Services Director Chad Black.

The Habersham County fire boat was requested from where it’s housed with Shiloh Fire Department in Stephens County to provide water supply due to the steep drive and doubt that any fire apparatus would be able to make it to the scene, according to Black.

“Due to [Tallulah Falls] Engine 7 able to make it to the location, the boat was canceled, and crews were able to extinguish the fire,” Black said.

No injuries were reported.
