Police say Allen Craig Willard, 25, Suwanee was killed and Jerome Daniel Colvin, 34 was taken into custody in connection to a shooting Tuesday afternoon in Downtown Buford.

Gwinnett Police were notified of an alleged active shooter at 12:10 p.m. in the area of South Lee Street and West Main Street, said Cpl. Wilbert Rundles.

"It turned that there was a shooting, but there was not an active shooter," said Rundles.

Willard was found dead in the road of a gunshot wound, though it's unclear how many times he was shot. Witnesses gave police the suspect's description, and Colvin was found a few blocks away and subsequently taken into custody.

"The people involved in the shooting, we believe [they] knew each other. I don't know the exact relationship between them," said Rundles.

"What led them into the altercation, we are still trying to put together what led to that."

Nobody besides Willard was injured in the shooting.

Rundles also cleared up a misnomer that made it's way across social media, adding that the Mall of Georgia was never in any danger in relation to this case, as the shooting was nearly five miles away involving a man who didn't get far from the area.

"Don't know how that information got out, [or] if somebody just generalized the area, but we would like to clarify that the Mall of Georgia and the patrons there were never affected," said Rundles.

Rundles said investigators are still putting together circumstances that led up to the shooting.
