(UPDATE) Girls basketball: Chestatee falls in Banker's Classic finals; Buford, Lumpkin County, Bluff get wins

COMMERCE — Isabel Davenport poured in 23 points, including six 3-pointers, to lead Lumpkin County to 50-43 victory over Oconee County in a tournament game at East Jackson High School.

Daveport had 10 in a huge 23-point fourth quarter as the Lady Indians rallied from a 28-27 deficit.

Oconee County led 9-6 after the first quarter but Lumpkin County used a 16-8 second quarter to take a 22-17 halftime lead. However, the Lady Warriors were held to just five points in the third quarter as the Lady Titans reclaimed the lead.

Mackenzie Caldwell added 12 points and Mackenzie Pulley had 8 points and Ashlynn Wistoski 7 points for Lumpkin County.

Sara English led Oconee County with 15 points but had five points after haftime.

CHESTATEE 52

The Lady War Eagles lost to T.L. Hanna (S.C) in the finals of The Banker’s Classic at Jackson County High School.

Maggie McNair led the way for Chestatee (1-2) with 21 points. Beth Eddins added 14 points and took three big charges on defense.

Chestatee next will take on Dawson County on Monday in the opening round of The Tiger Tip-off Tournament. Tip-off is scheduled for 6 p.m.

 

 

BUFORD 55
NORTH GWINNETT 46

The Lady Wolves opened their season with a win over the Class 7A Lady Bulldogs in the first round of the Dacula Thanksgiving Tip-off Tournament.

Buford (1-0) led 17-6 after the first quarter but North Gwinnett trimmed the lead and it stayed close the entre way.

Katelyn Klein had 16 points to pace Buford. Tate Walters, despite nursing an ankle injury, added 12 points the Lady Wolves.

Buford next will take on Class 6A Valdosta on Monay in the quarterfinal round of the Dacula tournament.

 

CHEROKEE BLUFF 54
WEST FORSYTH 49

Cherokee Bluff bounced back from its first loss on Friday with a win over West Forsyth Saturday.

Maddie Thomas and Timber Gaither each had 15 points to lead the Lady Bears (2-1). Gaither also was a perfect 9-for-9 from the free throw line.

Madi Phillips added 14 points for Cherokee Bluff.

The Lady Bears next will play host to Denmark on Monday at 5 p.m.

 

HILLGROVE 64
LAKEVIEW ACADEMY 59

Despite getting 25 points, 5 rebounds, and 3 assists from Eliza Snyder, the Lady Lions could not pull the upset against the Class 7A Lady Hawks.

Lakeview (1-1) also got 19 points on 8-for-8 shooting from Joelle Snyder, who also had 4 assists and 4 steals in the game. Sadie Thrailkil had 5 points to go with 12 rebounds and Madie Towles added 7 points for Lakeview Academy.

The Lady Lions will  be back in action on Monday at 3:30 p.m.at the Keller Williams Raider Classic at North Forsyth High School.
