BLAIRSVILLE — The Union County girls opened their season in solid fashion Thursday night.
The Lady Panthers used an 18-5 second quarter to blow open a close game en route to a 50-21 win over Rabun Gap at home.
Ava Hunter poured in 16 points and Kait McCarter had 11 for Union County (1-0). Andelin Hill added 9 points for the Lady Panthers.
Union led just 9-6 until the big second quarter and took a 38-18 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Lady Panthers next will play host to rival Towns County on Tuesday.
