Gainesville man arrested for robbing store, stabbing employee in head

By B.J. Williams

A Gainesville man is in jail charged with aggravated assault and armed robbery following an early-morning hold-up at a CVS pharmacy in Gainesville.

Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said the incident unfolded around 1 a.m. Thursday when the suspect, identified as 33-year-old Brandon Shane Dudley, entered the CVS at 103 Jesse Jewell Parkway. Holbrook said Dudley, who was wearing a mask, approached a store employee and demanded money.

Witnesses told police the suspect didn't give the employee time to comply with his demand before he stabbed the employee in the head with a knife. Holbrook said the weapon lodged in the employee's skull.

The suspect fled from the store, but police were able to quickly find him at a location on Jesse Jewell Parkway, a short distance away from the scene of the crime.

Dudley was arrested without incident, according to Holbrook.

The employee, who was able to talk with officers, was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in serious condition, according to Holbrook. He said the employee is expected to make a recovery from his injuries.

Holbrook said the investigation is ongoing, and Dudley could face more charges.
