After searching for eight weeks, the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office has rounded up a suspect who pointed a handgun at shoppers as he was trying to steal merchandise from a Home-Depot store in Lawrenceville.

The incident happened on Sept. 5, and 37-year-old Antonio  McClure remained on the run until Wednesday morning, according to Dep. Shannon Volkadov, the Public Information Officer for the Gwinnett County Sheriff's Office.

Volkadov said Antonio Tyrone McClure, 37, was in the process of stealing about $1,500 worth of merchandise from the store at 875 Lawrenceville-Suwanee Road when some shoppers tried to stop him.

"Bystanders report that he pointed a firearm at shoppers who attempted to intervene," Volkadov wrote in a press statement. "When his firearm malfunctioned, McClure is accused of striking a bystander in the head with the firearm before fleeing the scene."

Volkadov said a Gwinnett County Police Department investigators were able to identify McClure as the suspect and issued warrants for his arrest.

"Our investigators developed leads that led them to the Oak Tree Villas apartment complex in DeKalb County. They notified DeKalb County Sheriff’s Office, who generously provided support to ensure the safety of nearby residents as well as their fellow law enforcement officers," Volkadov said.

McClure was arrested without incident around 6 a.m. at 882 Gatehouse Drive, Apartment A in Decatur.

Antonio McClure was transported to the Gwinnett County Jail, where he’s being held with no bond.
