DAWSONVILLE — Dawson County used the big play early and often in taking a 41-7 win over Cherokee Bluff Friday night in Region 7-3A.

The Tigers (8-1, 4-1 Region 7-3A) offense got five scoring plays of 49-yards or more while the defense held the Bears (0-10, 0-6) offense scorless. The Bluff’s only points came on a fumble recovery for a touchdown for Braden Lance in the fourth quarter.

Dakohta Sonnichsen got things started quickly for Dawson County scoring on a 73-yard run on the Tigers’ first possession. Sevaughn Clark scored on an 81-yard run and after a Riley Herndon interception of a Cherokee Bluff pass, Ahmad Kamara added a 49-yard scoring run in just over a 4-minute span for a 21-0 lead.

Shawn Thomas added a 4-yard touchdown run late in the first quarter and Kamara struck again early in the second quarter with a 51-yard run. Thomas got his second TD of the game on a 74-yard sprint as Dawson County led 41-0.

Dawson County had over 400 yards in the first half.

The Bears closed out their first varsity season with the loss. Dawson County will close out its regular season next week at home against North Hall (8-1, 4-1) in a showdown for second place and a home playoff game.
