UPDATE: GBI releases new information in officer-involved shooting in Gainesville

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation continues gathering the details in the death of a Gainesville man around midnight Sunday.

Special Agent In Charge Mike Walsingham says deputies responded to a call on Truelove Road of a man pointing a gun at neighbors Saturday around 6:00 p.m.

He says neighbors told the cops that James Christopher Manus, 41, pointed a pistol at numerous people and set fire to a neighbor's well house.

Deputies spoke with Manus on his porch before he went into his home and authorities noticed that Manus was armed with a handgun, according to Walsingham.

He said the Hall County Sheriff's Office SWAT team was called to the scene and, after a 6-hour stand-off, a hostage negotiator attempted to talk to Manus.

The investigation revealed that Manus began firing at the SWAT team members while speaking with the negotiator and that's when they returned fire, killing him.

No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident.

Once the GBI's investigation is complete, the results will be turned over to the Northern Judicial Circuit District Attorney's office.
