Forsyth County Sheriff's Office confirms resignation of captain accused of making inappropriate comments

By AccessWDUN Staff
The Forsyth County Sheriff's Office (FCSO) confirmed Tuesday a captain with the department has resigned in light of an internal investigation into sexual remarks he allegedly made to a woman in the community.

The Atlanta Journal Constitution and Channel 2 Action News reported the unidentified woman claimed that Capt. Chris Barrett made inappropriate comments to her at a chiropractor's office where she worked. She said Barrett would also show her photos of drug-seizure evidence and told her he would take her to an evidence room where the two could engage in sexual relations.

In a written statement about the allegations, First Sgt. Mike Garrison with the Office of Professional Standards at the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office said their investigation began when Sheriff Ron Freeman heard rumors in the community. Sheriff Freeman initiated the internal affairs inquiry, even though no one made a direct complaint to the sheriff's office, according to Garrison.

As part of the written statement, Freeman said:

"I demand that my senior officers set the example in the agency, regardless of standards and disciplinary recommendations, senior officers will be held to the highest standards, if they do not, they can no longer work for the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office."

The FCSO also said the Georgia Peace Officers Standards and Training Council is reviewing the complaints.
