Work underway on new master plan for Hall County Parks & Leisure

By B.J. Williams

Hall County has started the task of updating the master plan for the county's parks department.

Mike Little, the Director of Parks & Leisure Services for Hall County, said the last time the county updated the parks' master plan was in 2005. He said the update is long overdue.

A consultant - Clark Patterson Lee of Suwanee - will spearhead the plan development.

"They'll take a look at deficiencies and everything to do with our department - maintenance-wise, facility-wise, staffing-wise," Little said. "[They'll] kind of lay a map out for us for the next 10 years."

Little said the consulting firm will spend the next few months conducting focus groups among stakeholders, and he said that includes community members.

"Input from the general public is so important, so there will be online surveys conducted, town hall meetings conducted to solicit input from the general public," Little said.

Once data is collected, the consulting firm will compile a plan for the Hall County Commission to review. Little estimates commissioners will see the finished product in January or February of 2019.

While specific dates have not been set for community forums, Little suggested the public follow Hall County Parks & Leisure on Facebook or Instagram to get the latest information on the master plan, as well as regular activities going on at the local parks.
