4-car crash locks down I-985 during Friday afternoon rush hour

By B.J. Williams

While there were no life-threatening injuries resulting from a four-car pile-up on I-985 Friday afternoon, the crash caused a major headache during the afternoon commute, according to the Georgia State Patrol (GSP).

The accident occurred around 4 p.m. in the northbound lanes of the interstate near mile marker 8.

A statement from Post 6 of the Georgia State Patrol in Gainesville said William Berry, 47, of Gainesville was the only driver charged in the crash. He was charged with following too closely and failure to maintain lane.

GSP said one of the drivers involved in the crash, Juan Campa, 21, of Gainesville, was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Two other drivers - Lawrence Moss, 31, of Lawrenceville and Saundra Bolick, 50, of Flowery Branch - suffered minor injuries but were not taken to the hospital.

The GSP report said northbound traffic on I-985 was blocked for about an hour and a half as a result of the accident.
