Police: Dacula man dead after 'darting out' into traffic on Ga. 316

A Dacula man killed Wednesday on Ga. 316 apparently "darted out" into traffic multiple times before a fatal collision with a driver from Flowery Branch, police said.

Sonfa O. Turay, 52, was killed when he was struck by a car, driven by Kyle Dillon, 18, of Flowery Branch, shortly before 3 p.m., according to a report released Friday.

Dillon, who will not be charged in the case, told police that Turay jumped in front of his car near Oak Valley Road, and that he didn't have time to swerve out of the way or stop.

A witness, Mark Grovogel of Winder, told officers that he was traveling ahead of Dillon, and that Turay had attempted to jump in front of his vehicle as well.

Turay's wife told police that her husband had suffered a brain injury within the past year, and had apparently been in an "altered mental state" for several months, according to the report.

The report states that police had received multiple calls about Turay apparently moving into traffic prior to the incident.

Turay's body has been sent to the Gwinnett County Medical Examiner's Office for autopsy.
