VIDEO: Police try to ID suspect in van theft, church burglary

A man who police say used a sledgehammer to break into a church in Buford, later stealing a church van, is pictured in images released by officers Friday.
 
According to Gwinnett County Police Cpl. Michelle Pihera, the suspect spent about ten hours at Salt and Light Church at 4300 South Lee Street during the overnight on Jan. 16 and 17.
 
"Initially he slept on the outdoor heating unit that was emitting steam to keep warm," Pihera wrote in a media release.  "The next morning, he used a sledgehammer to break into the church."
 
The man, described as white with tattoos on his right arm, allegedly stole the 15-passenger van, clothing and and red headphones.
 
Investigators said the van is a gray 2008 Chevrolet Express.  It has decals on both sides that reads "Salt & Light Presbyterian Church."
