Inclement weather impacts schedules of schools, businesses, organizations

Some North Georgia schools, colleges, non-profits and businesses are closing or changing schedules due to inclement weather. The following organizations have alerted AccessWDUN of delays and closings.
 
SCHOOLS​​

  • Banks County Schools closed for students on Thursday. Staff should report at 10 a.m., if possible.
  • Barrow County Schools closed Thursday.
  • Clarke County Schools will be closed Thursday.
  • Commerce City Schools closed Thursday. Faculty and staff should report at 10 a.m.
  • Dawson County Schools will be closed Thursday and treat the day as an online learning day. All staff should report at 9:30 if safe to do so.
  • Elbert County Schools will be closed for students, faculty and staff on Thursday. Twelve-month employees should report at 11 a.m. if safe to do so. 
  • Franklin County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday. 
  • Gainesville City Schools closed for students on Thursday. Staff should report by 10 a.m. or when safe to do so. 
  • Gilmer County Schools closed Thursday.
  • Gwinnett County Schools closed Thursday.
  • Habersham County Schools will be closed for students and staff on Thursday.
  • Hall County Schools will be closed Thursday. Teachers, administrators and staff (except for bus drivers and cafeteria workers) are asked to report at 12 p.m., conditions permitting.
  • Jefferson City Schools closed Thursday.
  • Lakeview Academy will be closed Thursday.
  • Lanier Christian Academy will be closed Thursday. 
  • Lumpkin County Schools will be closed Thursday. Staff should report at 9:30 a.m. 
  • Madison County Schools closed Thursday.
  • Rabun County Schools will be closed Thursday for students, faculty and staff. Twelve-month employees should report at 10 a.m. if safe to do so.
  • Rabun Gap-Nacoochee School will delay opening until 10 a.m. Thursday. 
  • Riverside Military Academy staff is asked to report at noon Thursday.
  • Stephens County Schools will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday.
  • Tallulah Falls School will operate on a two-hour delay Thursday. All shuttles will arrive two hours later than the normal schedule. 
  • Towns County Schools closed Thursday.
  • Union County Schools closed Thursday.
  • White County Schools closed Thursday.

 

COLLEGES

  • Brenau University resumes operation and classes at 9:30 a.m. Thursday in Gainesville, Fairburn and Norcross.  
  • All campuses of Lanier Technical College will be closed Thursday. 
  • All campuses of North Georgia Technical College will be closed Thursday.
  • Truett McConnell University will delay opening until 10 a.m. Thursday.
  • The University of North Georgia Dahlonega campus will resume normal operations on Thursday. All other UNG campuses will open at 11 a.m. The administration is evaluating the weather situation and will re-evaluate the weather and road conditions throughout Wednesday evening.

 

DAYCARE/PRE-K

  • Ark Angels Christian Learning Center in Cornelia will delay opening until 10 a.m. Thursday.
  • Foundation Academy in Cornelia will delay opening until 8:30 a.m. for childcare on Thursday. No Georgia Pre-k.
  • Little Harvard Learning Center in Gainesville and Oakwood will be closed on Thursday. 

GOVERNMENT

  • The Department of Driver Services Conyers’ Headquarters Offices, plus many locations in the severe weather area will remain closed Thursday. Several locations will have a delayed opening at 10:00 AM.  Please visit the DDS website at www.dds.georgia.gov before visiting.
  • Forsyth County Government Offices will open at 11 a.m. on Thursday. The county’s 9 a.m. Traffic Arraignment Calendar has been cancelled
  • Gainesville City Offices will open at 10 a.m. Thursday. Hall Area Transit, Senior Life Center and Meals on Wheels will not operate. 
  • Gwinnett Board of Education will hold its monthly business meeting on Thursday at 4 p.m. instead of 7 p.m.  The work session will begin at 2:30 p.m. 
  • Gwinnett County Government offices will open at 10 a.m. Thursday. Gwinnett County Transit Express bus service is canceled. Local and paratransit bus service will delay starting until 10 a.m. with service rolling out on the regular weekday schedule. 
  • Hall County Government facilities, including the government center, courthouse, community centers, clinic and pharmacy, landfill, compactor sites, animal shelter, and libraries, will delay opening until noon on Thursday
  • Jackson County Government offices will delay opening until 10 a.m. Thursday.
  • Lawrenceville City Hall (and all city operations) will delay opening until 10 a.m. Thursday.


BUSINESS

  • Cottrell Inc. will not work second or third shifts Wednesday. Operations will resume Thursday at first shift.
  • Kubota (KMA & KIE) will remain closed until 10 a.m. on Thursday. 1st Shift should report at 10 a.m.
  • Lance Animal Hospital in Gainesville will delay opening until 10 a.m. Thursday. 
  • Longstreet Clinic will delay opening all offices until 10 a.m. Thursday. 
  • Makita USA, Inc. will open at 9 a.m. Thursday. All employees should report at that time.
  • Rejuvenation Clinics of Georgia will delay opening until 11 a.m. Thursday.
  • South State Bank locations in Clarkesville, Cleveland, Commerce, Cornelia, Gainesville, Jefferson, Toccoa and Winder will delay opening until 10 a.m.
  • Tanger Outlets in Commerce will delay opening until 11 a.m. Thursday.

 

OTHER ORGANIZATIONS

  • Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier will be closed Thursday. 
  • Good News Clinics will delay opening until noon Thursday.
  • Legacy Link in Oakwood will delay opening on Thursday until 11 a.m. 
  • Randy and Friends, Inc. will be closed at R&F Enterprises and The Place on Thursday.
