Girls basketball: North Hall, Buford take region victories; Branch nabs late win

DAWSONVILLE — The North Hall girls basketball team fended off a career night from Dawson County's Calli Watson to notch a 64-56 victory on Wednesday in Dawsonville.

Watson poured in 33 points, including nine 3-pointers, but the Lady Trojans (9-5, 3-1 Region 7-AAA) pulled ahead 41-34 after three quarters and then kept pace in a hot-shooting fourth quarter, edging the hosts 23-22 over the final eight minute period.

Camilla Howell put up 20 points for North Hall, while Natalie Nixon added 10. Macy Clark also scored 9.

Meanwhile, Sophia D'Oliveira had 9 for the Lady Tigers (8-6, 1-2), and Cadey Ayers scored 6.

Dawson County will look to bounce back at East Hall on Friday.

North Hall will play host to Banks County at home on Saturday.


FLOWERY BRANCH GIRLS 54,
MILL CREEK 53

Caroline Wysocki stole the ball and scored on a lay-up with 18 seconds remaining to seal the win for the Lady Falcons (10-3) on Wednesday.

It was part of a balanced scoring effort from the Branch, as Wysocki led the way with 13 points, 5 assists and 3 steals. Lexie Sengkhammee added 11 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists, while Ashlee Locke and Ashley Woodroffe each scored 10. Locke also grabbed 7 rebounds and blocked 4 shots, and Woodroffe snagged 4 rebounds.

The Lady Falcons take on Clarke Central on Friday.

CLARKE CENTRAL 33

The Lady Wolves (10-3, 3-0 Region 8-AAAAA) dominated on Wednesday night in Buford, taking a 46-18 lead at the half.

Casey Jones paced Buford with 11 points, while Mary Walters and CJ Johnson each put up 10 points -- 14 players scored for Buford on the night.

The Lady Wolves travel to Walnut Grove on Friday.
