CLARKESVILLE — Clarkesville Police Department is seeking the public’s help finding the person who made a weekend threat to a fast food eatery in the city.
The incident happened late Saturday night and resulted in the evacuation of the restaurant area.
“We received a call of an explosive device reportedly located in the men's restroom of the Clarkesville McDonald's,” said Police Chief Brad Barrett.
Clarkesville police responded, along with Clarkesville Fire Department, and the immediate area was evacuated.
“A caller from McDonald's advised that they had answered a phone call from what sounded to be a younger Caucasian male,” Barrett said. “That male relayed that an explosive device had been placed in the men's restroom of the restaurant.”
Clarkesville police requested an explosive detection K-9 from the Habersham County Sheriff’s Office, and utilization of that team in searching the restaurant and grounds located nothing suspicious, according to Barrett.
“An out-of-state telephone number was obtained during the investigation of the initial call,” Barrett said. “At this time, it is believed that this number is no related to the actual caller.”
Clarkesville investigators are continuing to pursue leads relating to the identity of the caller, Barrett said Tuesday night.
