Rep. Collins wants to rename Clermont Post Office, honor fallen Marine

U.S. Rep. Doug Collins, R-Gainesville, has introduced a resolution in the House to rename the Clermont Post Office after a native son who died in action in Vietnam.

Zachary Taylor Addington joined the U.S. Marine Corps in 1967 and became a rifleman in the 3rd Marine Division of the Fleet Marine Force.  He deployed to Vietnam that year and was killed in May of 1968, according to the congressman's office.

"Lance Corporal Addington led a life of service and honor, and he sacrificed that life for his countrymen," Collins said in a media release.  "Northeast Georgia is proud of his legacy, and I'm honored to be part of helping that legacy live on as the Zack T. Addington Post Office in Clermont," Collins said.

The month after his death, Addington received the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal and Republic of Vietnam Campaign Ribbon.

"My family and I are very thankful that Zachary is being honored in this way," Addison Addington, Zack Addington's brother told Collins' office.
