VIDEO: Year of the Quarterback -- Watson's ability, passion driving Dawson County

DAWSONVILLE — Coey Watson lives his dream every day he puts on a Dawson County football jersey.

And the Tigers are certainly glad of that.

The Dawsonville native grew up a Dawson football fanatic, and it is obvious every time he straps on a helmet. Throw in the fact that he is an extradorinary dual-threat talent and leader and you have a program-defining player like Watson.

Since taking over as starting quarterback three years ago, Watson has rolled up yard after yard, score after score -- and plenty of big wins to match.

Watson's combination of grit and awe helped lead the Tigers to their first ever region championship and state quarterfinal appeaerance as a sophomore, and he maintained a high standard as a junior, helping Dawson County to a No. 2 seed in the ultra-competitive Region 7-AAA and a second straight state berth (which had happened just once previously in program history). As a senior, he's hoping for even more, and a young team around him that has come on leaps and bounds has Watson dreaming of a storybook finish.

For his career, Watson has rolled up 7,214 total yards and 82 touchdowns for the Tigers. And after fighting off injury early this season, Watson showed he is ready to lead another charge, passing for 332 yards and four scores in last week's shootout loss (45-42) to White County.

Whatever the future hold in store, Watson is without a doubt a shining example of the "Year of the Quarterback" in northeast Georgia. To watch a video feature with Watson, simply click "play" above.
