OAKWOOD — The Johnson girls volleyball swept a pair of Area8-AAAAA matches at home Monday night in girls volleyball action.
It was the first two area wins for the Lady Knights (10-19, 2-2 Area 8-AAAAA) of the season. The held of Clarke Central 25-12 and 25-19 and then spiked Cedar Shoals 25-3, 25-8 in the second match.
Grace Eidson had 6 aces, 14 kills, 14 assists to lead the Lady Knights. Alivia Farley had 3 aces, 5 kills, 12 assists, Julia Bowers had 4 aces, Samantha Summerville added 5 aces and 4 kills, and Kellie Tran had 6 kills and 2 blocks for Johnson.
Johnson next will travel to Class AAAAA defending state champion Buford on Tuesday in another Area 8-AAAAA battle.
BUFORD SWEEPS, BRANCH DROPS TWO
Meanwhile, Flowery Branch traveled to Buford for a pair of Area 8-AAAAA matches Monday.
The Lady Falcons (15-7, 2-3 Area 8-AAAAA) fell to the host Lady Wolves 25-5, and 25-8 and then dropped a tight 26-24, 25-23 decision to Walnut Grove.
Leading the Falcons were senior middle blocker Anna Marshall, who had 12 kills, 1 assist, 1 ace, and 2 block assists. Junior outside hitter Phoebe Hammond had 4 kills, 2 aces, and 3 block assists, and junior setter Oriah Ware added 22 assists for Flowery Branch.
The Branch next will play host to Peachtree Ridge on Thursday on Senior Night in a non-area battle.
