Nick Lyles has put up some monster performances this season for Chestatee football.
So it was no surprise on Friday that when the War Eagles needed someone to step up, Lyles answered the call.
The senior running back gashed Habersham Central for 292 yards rushing and four touchdowns to help Chestatee fight back from a 30-14 halftime deficit and notch a 41-37 victory in Mt. Airy.
Not only that, Lyles recovered a crucial fumble in the end zone inside the final two minutes that helped the War Eagles fend off a late Raiders drive and seal a third straight victory.
For his efforts, Lyles has been named the Friday Game Night, Coca-Cola United Bottling Player of the Week.
With a bye on this week's schedule, Lyles and his teammates are resting up and re-focusing for what promises to be a very tough Region 7-AAAA schedule. Yet with 958 rushing yards and 18 touchdowns already to his credit this season, you can be certain that Chestatee's senior back -- along with a strong offensive line -- will be a big storyline in that competition, which features five teams each with a winning non-region record.
Lyles was already 15th in the state across all classifications in rushing yards prior to Friday's explosive game and is certain to move up those rankings.
