Authorities capture 2nd suspect in Gainesville murder case

A man remained behind bars in the Hall County Jail Monday morning after being captured Friday in the April shooting death of a man in Gainesville.

According to Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook, Marquis Lejon Studivant was arrested by the Hall County Sheriff's Office after a brief chase.

"Deputies, officers and investigators relentlessly followed leads to ensure Studivant was taken into custody and no longer a threat to our community," Holbrook wrote in an email.

Studivant had been wanted in the murder of Dennis Ronald Gayton, 47, who was shot and killed in front of his 15-year-old son.  Tadrick Terrian Osborne was already behind bars in connection with the crime near Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd. and Carlton Street.

"The shooter fired into the vehicle during the incident, killing Gayton and causing the vehicle to crash into a tree," Holbrook said shortly after the April 4 evening crime.

Studivant was booked into the jail on two counts of aggravated assault, felony murder and a State Court probation warrant.  Osborne was already in custody on the same set of charges.  Both men are Gainesville residents, according to Holbrook.

A week after the murder, police said Gayton was the victim of an alleged attempted robbery during drug-related activity.
