Softball roundup: Buford, East Hall, Chestatee take region wins, Stephens County drops 3rd straight

LOGANVILLE — Buford remained unbeaten in Region 8-AAAAA with a 5-1 win over Loganville on Thursday.

The Lady Wolves (13-2, 2-0 Region 8-AAAAA) got a complete game from Logan Caymol (5-1) who scattered three hits and fanned 13.

Buford scored a run in the second when Janelle Mathis scored on an error and then senior Hannah Jo Hyatt crushed a three-run homer to right for a 4-0 lead. The Lady Wolves pushed the lead to 5-0 in the fourth when Shea Bayreuther singled, moved to third on a double by Arielle Oda, and then scored on a wild pitch.

Loganville scored it only run in the fourth but Caymol retired 10 of the final 12 Lady Red Devils batters to close out the game.

EAST HALL 9
GAC 3

East Hall used a five-run fouth inning to rally for a key Region 7-AAA win Thursday in a back-and-forth affair on the road. The victory pushed East Hall's win streak to six and ran its lead over North Hall to two games for first place in the standings..

The Lady Vikings (13-5, 7-0 Region 7-AAA) opened with a run in the first but the Lady Spartans (5-4, 3-3) answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning. East Hall tied the game in the second but GAC reclaimed the lead 3-2 with a run in the bottom of the second.

In the fourth, Carley Cox's two-run single gave East Hall the lead for good. Steffanie Redmon and Macy Banks each had RBI hits in the inning.

Cox went 4-for-5 at the plate with a triple and three singles.

Banks earned the win for the Lady Vikings going the distance surrendering three runs on eight hits while striking out five.

OCONEE COUNTY 3
STEPHENS COUNTY 1

Stephens County dropped its third straight game and second straight Region 8-AAAA play Thursday.

Oconee County scored twice in the top of the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie when Lauren Murphy doubled off of Emma Whitfield, driving in two runs.

Whitfield took the loss despite fanning eight.

The Lady Indians (10-4, 3-2 Region 8-AAAA) offense has gone cold scoring just two runs over its last 33 innings of action. The loss also dropped Stephens County into a tie for third place in the region standings.

Oconee County took a 1-0 lead when Keely Glenn homered in the top of the second inning. Stephens County evened things up in the bottom of the secondon Kataryna Fuller's RBI double.

It stayed that way until the seventh.

Glenn, Kayley Sellers, Ashton Ayers, Fuller, Jasmine Lowery, Emma Whitfield, and Alanna Dunson each collected one hit to lead Stephens County.

CHESTATEE 8-13
WEST HALL 0-2

Chestatee ran its win streak to four with a sweep of West Hall Thursday in Region 7-AAAA.

The Lady War Eagles (10-6, 5-1 Region 7-AAA) pounded out 23 hits in the doubleheader and two complete-game efforts from Elizabeth Eddins in the circle.

Hannah Jones had three hits and six RBI in the two games for Chestatee. Bailey Mason had five hits and two RBI, Kala Sargent had four hits, and Cheyenne Roper and Eddins each had three hits in the doubleheader.
