Even with the projected track of Hurricane Irma shifting farther to the west overnight, northeast Georgia is still under the gun for tropical storm conditions Monday and Tuesday.
That means several inches of rain, perhaps as much as six, and wind gusts of 50-60 miles an hour. Those tropical force winds are expected to arrive Monday night.
A Tropical Storm Watch has now been issued for Gainesville and most of the region. That means tropical storm wind conditions are poossible within the next 48 hours. However, some nearby counties - including Barrow, Jackson, Clarke and Madison - are under a Tropical Storm Warning, which means tropical storm wind conditions are expected within the next 36 hours..
In addition, much of north Georgia is under a Flash Flood Watch which begins Monday morning.
Meanwhile, a Hurricane Warning extends from Florida into parts of south Georgia, including the Albany, Moultrie, Valdosta, and Waycross areas, as well as Brunswick and Savannah on the coast.
