UPDATE: State Patrol releases details in accident that injured Lula councilman

The Georgia State Patrol has released more details about a pedestrian accident in Lula Monday, including confirming the pedestrian victim was councilman Robert "Lamb" Griffin.

William Carter, 61, of Commerce, was traveling east on Georgia 51, west of County Line Road, in his vehicle when Griffin, 78, began crossing the road in front of the vehicle, according to Sgt. Auston Allen with the State Patrol in an email statement.

Allen said Carter swerved to the right, driving the right tires off the roadway, however the left side of the vehicle struck Griffin, Allen said. Griffin collapsed and was later transported to the NEGMC in stable condition

No charges will be filed, according to Allen.

Griffin is known for walking around Lula and was apparently on his way to a city council meeting when the accident occurred.

After alerting those at the Monday night meeting that Griffin had been in an accident, Lula City Manager Dennis Bergin described Griffin as resilient.

"Believe it or not, it would appear he is ok," Bergin said after the meeting. Bergin said he may have some broken ribs, but Allen confirmed Tuesday Griffin had non-incapacitating injuries, including lacerations to his head.
