Softball: East Hall powers past GAC for 7-AAA win; Buford rolls in Hawk/Bulldog tourney

RABBITTOWN —  Steffanie Redmon smacked a three-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to power the East Hall girls softball team to a 6-4 win over Greater Atlanta Christian Thursday in Region 7-AAA action.

The Lady Vikings (4-3, 2-0 Region 7-AAA) trailed 3-2 when Redmon homered off of Sydney Deardorff to give them the lead for good. Macy Banks earned the win for East Hall tossing seven innings, allowing four runs on six hits while striking out eight and walking none.

GAC (0-3, 0-2) took a quick 1-0 in the first on an East Hall error and extended its lead to 3-0 in the third. But the Lady Vikings cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third highlighted by a Banks home run. East Hall pushed the lead to 6-3 in the sixth and GAC closed to within 6-4 with a run in the seventh but could get no closer.

Deardorff took the loss for the Lady Spartans going six innings and surrendering all six runs on seven hits and fanning five.

East Hall next will travel to Union County on Tuesday in another region matchup.

BUFORD 16
APALACHEE 0​ 4 innings

The Lady Wolves used an 11-run third inning to blow open the game en route to run-rule victory in the Hawk/Bulldog tournament at Mill Creek High School.

Buford (7-1) was retired in order in the first inning by th Lady Wildcats but then the offense exploded. The Wolves scored twice in the second. In the big third inning, Kelsey Bennett, Shea Bayreuther, and Ansleigh Hollifield each had RBI doubles. Arielle Oda had a two-run triple and Katie Perkins and Mariah Wicker each had RBI singles as they jumped out to a 13-0 lead. They added three more in the top of the fourth to invoke the run rule.

Senior Ansley Byers picked up her third win of the season scattering a pair of hits in three innings of work.

The Lady Wolves will resume play in the Hawk/Bulldog tournament on Saturday at North Gwinnett High School taking on Lowndes County at 11 a.m. and Harris County at 1 p.m.


NORTH HALL 3,
LUMPKIN COUNTY 0

Kendyl Chase didn't allow a single run as the Lady Trojans blanked the Lady Indians on Thursday. Chase allowed just one hit and struck out Lita Sills to end the game.

Pitching was strong on both sides, as Chase struck out four, while Lumpkin's Natalie Robinson sat down three.

Chase earned the win in throwing seven innings and allowing just one hit, while striking out four, and walking one. Robinson took the loss for Lumpkin County in seven innings, allowing three runs, four hits, and striking out three.

Camilla Howell's three RBI provided the winning runs for the Lady Trojans.

Goodman went 1-for-3 at the plate to lead the Lady Indians.
