Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier has chance to win $10K

By AccessWDUN staff

Gainesville Fire Chief and Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier Alum Jerome Yarbrough has been selected as a nationwide top 10 Finalist for the #BGCMade contest - and a chance to win $10,000 for the Clubs.

The contest is an effort to draw support for the Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s Alumni and Friends program. Club Alumni around the country were invited to share their stories about how their local Boys & Girls Club influenced their lives.

Two runners-up will win money for the Boys & Girls Club of their choice as well as Dr. Pepper Snapple Gear. The Grand Prize winner will get $10,000 for the Club of their choice, a Skype session with Boys & Girls Club Alum and Principal Dancer for the American Ballet Theater Misty Copeland, and Dr. Pepper Snapple Gear.

“We are incredibly proud of Jerome for being a finalist in this nationwide competition. Over the years he has been an instrumental part of our board of directors and our community. To think that Boys & Girls Clubs of Lanier had something to do with his exceptional character speaks volumes,” says BGC of Lanier CEO Steven Mickens. “Just the other day he had a few firefighters bring out and put up a new American flag. Things like that are a testament to his citizenship, which is something our Club values.”

Anyone can vote for Chief Yarbrough by visiting www.bgca.org/bgcmade, clicking on his video at the bottom of the page, and then “liking” it by clicking on the heart symbol. Votes can be cast once a day every day until 11:59 p.m. Monday, August 21.
