Gwinnett Police investigate shooting in Auburn, suspects on the loose

Gwinnett County Police are investigating a shooting that happened Monday afternoon in unincorporated Auburn, and at last report officers were searching for the two men believed to be responsible.

Corporal Michelle Pihera said it happened at 3639 Fence Road around 3:47 p.m.

The victim, described as a black male in his early 20's, was shot in the chest but was conscious and alert when officers arrived.

"Right after the shooting, two suspects were seen fleeing in a silver SUV. More than a dozen patrol officers, the K9 Unit, and the Aviation Unit descended to the area to search for the suspects and their SUV," said Pihera in a statement.

The first suspect is described as a lighter-complected black man in his 20s, standing 6-foot to 6-foot-3 with a short, faded hair cut and sleeve tattoos on both arms. He was reportedly wearing a black shirt.

The second suspect is a dark-complected black man, between 20-25 years old, standing 6-feet tall with a short afro.

Shortly after 4 p.m. officers got a call reporting an accident at Winder Highway and Circle Road, and they believed the suspects might have been involved, though their vehicle wasn't at the intersection when officers arrived on scene.

Officers found the SUV near Martins Chapel Road and Sugarloaf Parkway, according to Pihera.

"The vehicle had exterior damage. Officers moved their ground search to the area when the vehicle was abandoned," said Pihera.

Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact Crime Stoppers at (404) 577-TIPS (8477).
