By AccessWDUN staff
Gainesville Police are actively searching for an aggravated assault suspect who fled from police in Gainesville.

An alert indicated Dominique Harris fled on foot in the area of Christopher Drive and Thompson Bridge Road. It said he was last seen wearing red shorts and no shirt. Gainesville Police urge anyone who sees Harris to contact 911.

The incident reportedly happened around mid-morning Tuesday at Brandon Place Apartments.  Police said it happened just outside of one of the apartments.

"During the assault, our perpetrator, Dominique Harris, allegedly utilized a large knife or something similar.  He pulled that on a subject in the apartment complex," Gainesville Police Sgt. Kevin Holbrook said.

Harris then allegedly fled the scene.

"Fortunately the victim was not injured.  Harris did utilize the weapon, apparently put it up to the individual's neck in a threatening manner," Holbrook said.

The victim, a man, and Harris reportedly knew one another, according to Holbrook.

The incident prompted ground and helicopter searches for Harris in the area.

He has outstanding warrants for aggravated assault and criminal trespass.  Police urged anyone with information on Harris' whereabouts to call 911.
