A familiar face in Northeast Georgia will have a new position with the Georgia Department of Corrections effective Aug. 1.

Carrie Yearwood has been promoted to deputy warden of security at Whitworth Women’s Facility in Hart County.

As deputy warden, Yearwood will be responsible for supervising and managing 70 security staff members and 428 medium security female offenders.

“In her 10 years with the Department, Carrie has worked her way up through the ranks from Correctional Officer to Deputy Warden,” said Georgia Department of Corrections Commissioner Gregory C. Dozier in making the announcement. “We are excited to have her join the team at Whitworth, and we look forward to her continued success.”

Yearwood began her career with GDC in 2007 as a correctional officer at Lee Arrendale State Prison (LASP) in Alto.  In 2009, she was promoted to sergeant, and oversaw the office of inmate discipline. During her tenure at LASP, she served as CERT sergeant, lieutenant, and unit manager.

In 2016, Yearwood transferred to unit manager at Phillips State Prison in Buford, where she currently serves.

Yearwood has completed the following GDC training: Basic Correctional Officer Training (BCOT), Sergeant’s Academy, CERT Basic Training, Basic Management Training (BMT), Professional Management Program (PMP), Advanced Management Training (AMT), Corrections Leadership Institute (CLI), and Deputy Warden Academy.
