McIntosh motors to Southern Nationals victory at 411

By Michael Despain

SEYMOUR, TN - Donald McIntosh led all 35 laps in Tuesday night’s Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals Series feature to take the win at 411 Motor Speedway in Seymour, Tennessee.

The win gave the Dawsonville, Georgia wheel man a cool $3,500 payday, and made him the third different winner in the series in three events.

McIntosh took the lead at the start of the feature, but a four-car tangle broke out as the field was set to complete the opening lap that involved defending race winner David Crabtree, Vic Hill, Steve Casebolt, and Riley Hickman. Crabtree was the only one unable to continue.

The restart would see McIntosh again jump to the lead, with David Doherty, Chicky Barton, Vic Hill, and Jason Cardwell giving chase. Hill would get by Barton on lap five as McIntosh began working slower traffic on lap eight. Meanwhile, 12th place starter Jake Knowles moved into the top five and would grab the fourth position on lap nine. The only other caution of the event would wave on lap ten, when Barton spun in turn four, gathering up Craig Vosbergen in the process.

This restart would again see McIntosh motor away from the field, while Doherty and Hill settled into a battle for second. McIntosh would begin working slower traffic again on lap 14 and would continue to pull away from the field.

While Hill continued to pressure Doherty for second, McIntosh would stretch his lead to almost a full-straightaway advantage. At the same time, Knowles began to reel in the second and third place machines. As he closed, Hill moved to second on lap 25.

Knowles then began to pressure Doherty for third. As McIntosh would take the white flag to begin the final lap, Knowles would dive under Doherty in turn one and grab the third position.

Up front, it was McIntosh taking the win, with Hill in second, Knowles in third, Doherty in fourth and Cardwell in fifth.

Brandon Overton, Riley Hickman, Shanon Buckingham, Steve Casebolt, and Kenny Collins rounded out the top ten.

The Schaeffer’s Oil Southern Nationals returns to action on Thursday, July 20 at Georgia’s Senoia Raceway. For more information, visit SouthernNationalsSeries.com.
