Saturday night’s Pro Late Model feature at Alabama’s Montgomery Motor Speedway came down to a battle between two Peach State speedsters.
Casey Roderick, of Lawrenceville, Georgia, edged out Jasper, Georgia’s Chandler Smith on a lap 44 restart, and went on to lead the final 56 laps en route to the victory in the Show Me the Money Series feature.
Smith took the lead on lap four of the feature, and would hold the point through most of the first half of the race. That advantage went away when the first caution of the night flew on lap 43 when two-time Daytona 500 winner Sterling Marlin slowed in turn four.
On the restart, Roderick edged out Smith to take the lead. Over the next 56 laps, the lead duo worked through lap traffic. Towards the end, it looked like the slower cars might allow Smith to close on the leader and challenge for the win.
But that never materialized, as Roderick drove on to score the victory with Smith in tow.
Perry Patino finished in third, with Bobby Knox, Jr. in fourth and Christopher Tullis in fifth.
John Bolen, Jordan McCallum, Giovannni Bromante, Aiden Eldridge and Bill Bethea III rounded out the top ten.
