GAINESVILLE — A pair of former Gainesville High standouts share the lead going into the final round of the 2017 City Championship held at the Chattahoochee Golf Course.

Nathan Williams (71-70) and Pep Brown (70-71) are tied at the top of the leader board at 3-under par 141.

The first round began on Friday afternoon and concluded on Saturday morning after heavy rain and lighting storms halted play with six groups still on the golf course. Round 1 resumed play at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.

Round 2 began at 10:40 a.m. Saturday morning and after another lightning delay, the final group finished play around 6 p.m.

Matt Elliott (70-73) is two shots off the pace at 143. Rounding out the top five are Joe Turner (71-74) and Ryan Hogan (75-72).

After the first round of play in the 1st Flight, Mike Smith fired a 72 and has a four shot lead over Jay Jacobs, who carded a 76. Tait Freeman (79) is alone in third and a single stroke ahead of Keith Morris (80).

In the 2nd Flight, Jeff Stowe opened up with a round of 76. Stokes is two shots clear of a three-way tie for second place between Scott Head, Trent Brown and Will Hicks, who all fired 78s.
