2-county chase leads to charges for entering auto suspects

A police chase that spanned portions of Barrow and Walton counties this week ended with two men facing a list of charges related to several entering auto cases.

Barrow County deputies responded to reports of several such cases early this past Tuesday morning off of Elijah Way and Rebekah Drive, according to sheriff's Captain Ryan Sears.

"Walton County deputies were able to get behind the suspect vehicle which led to the suspects fleeing and stealing another vehicle," Sears wrote in a news release.  "That chase led them to Barrow County where the vehicle crashed at Highway 316 and McCarty Road."

Barrow and Walton County deputies and Winder Police searched and apprehended Laqerius Tywon Shumpert, 18, at roughly 4:00 p.m. the same day.

According to Sears, Shumpert, of Atlanta, confessed to the entering autos during an interview with investigators.

"(The) Walton County Sheriff's Office processed the vehicle and was able to recover a majority of the stolen property from Barrow County," Sears added.

He identified another suspect in the case as Brandon Bundrage.  Sears didn't list his age, city of residence or disclose whether he'd been arrested.

In an email, Barrow County Sheriff’s Office Records Manager Kimberly Phillips said she was unable to locate any information on Bundrage.  He wasn't listed on the online inmate roster for the Walton County Jail Friday afternoon.

Sears didn't immediately respond to a message for comment.

Both suspects are charged with entering auto, criminal trespass, damage to property, theft by taking, financial transaction card theft, obstruction of officers and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the release.
