Woman found dead in Lawrenceville house fire

By Associated Press

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. (AP) A 75-year-old woman's body has been found amid the rubble left after a fire destroyed a home in Gwinnett County.

Fire and Emergency Services Capt. Tommy Rutledge said in a press release that firefighters responded to the Lawrenceville home shortly before 3 p.m. Wednesday. He says the fire was under control by 3:31 p.m.

The woman's name has not been released. Rutledge says her injuries were consistent with the fire but her exact cause of death has not yet been determined by the medical examiner.

Rutledge says the fire is believed to have started in a formal living room at the front of the home, which is considered a total loss. The victim's body was found in the master bedroom on the back left side of the house, according to Rutledge.

The house is located in the 1500 block of Brandon Square.

The heat of the flames also melted vinyl siding on a neighboring home.
