Police: Thieves targeting Hispanic men in Oakwood also tied to Lilburn crimes

Three suspects accused of following people in Oakwood as they leave a bank, then stealing their money, could be tied to similar crimes in Gwinnett County.

The suspects, two men and a woman, have been targeting Hispanic men at the Bank of America locations in Lilburn since July 2015, according to a press statement issued by Lilburn Police.

A similar theft occurred in February at the Wells Fargo in Oakwood, confirmed Sgt. Danny Sridej in an email in AccessWDUN. Lilburn Police indicated that the crimes were related, perhaps by the same suspects, though Sridej said there has been no collaboration between the two departments.

In the Lilburn crimes, the suspects get into a black 2002 or 2003 Honda Civic and a silver 2002 Nissan Maxima and follow the victim until the victim reaches his destination.

One of the suspects then gets out and follows the victim on foot, while the other two break into his car can grab the cash.

Sridej said the February crime is still an active investigation, though police do not have any surveillance video or witnesses at this time.

Anyone with information on either crime is asked to contact law enforcement.
