GSP charges Lavonia woman in wreck resulting in the death of her passenger

HARTWELL — Georgia State Patrol Post 52 in Hartwell on Thursday released preliminary details of a Tuesday-night wreck in Franklin County that resulted in the death of an Eastanollee man.

According to the Patrol, a 2008 Ford F-150 pickup truck driven by 25-year-old Kayla Leann Cobb of Lavonia was traveling west on New Bethel Road, when it left the roadway on the right side, crossed back across New Bethel Road to the left and struck a phone box, then crossed the road again, striking a fence and a tree with its right front. Distance traveled between the time the truck left the road and came to rest after striking the tree was 646 feet.

Cobb’s passenger, 23-year-old Curtis Roy Hall of Eastanollee, was critically injured and died of his injuries midday Wednesday at Piedmont Athens Regional Medical Center.

Cobb was charged by GSP with first-degree vehicular homicide (felony), driving under the influence, reckless driving, failure to maintain lane, and tire requirements.

The wreck was reported at 7:43 p.m.
