Habersham officials release details of police activity on Habersham Mills Road

CLARKESVILLE — A reported domestic dispute with possible barricaded person resulted in activation of the Habersham Special Response team early Tuesday.

Habersham County sheriff's deputies responded to 449 Habersham Mills Road at 4:25 a.m. regarding a possible physical domestic disturbance.

"Upon the arrival of deputies, the suspect went back inside and refused to talk with deputies on scene," said Sheriff's Lt. Matt Wurtz. "Deputies were informed that the suspect had access to weapons in the house and had threatened to use them."

Because of the circumstances, the Habersham Special Response team was notified and responded to the scene.

"Upon speaking with the victim again, it was determined that it was not a domestic situation and that the suspect had not made direct threats to the victim or anyone else" Wurtz said. "The victim was escorted to her residence, which was not where the incident occurred, and deputies left the scene."

Part of Habersham Mills Road was closed during the incident, which was cleared just after 7 a.m.
