Two officers injured arresting escaped inmate in Athens

Two Athens-Clarke County police officers were injured arresting an escaped inmate Tuesday.
 
Marvin Terrell Taylor, 42, did not return back to a diversion center that he was ordered by a court to be at, according to police spokesman Epifanio Rodriguez.
 
Rodriguez said contact was made with Taylor inside a Dollar General on Lexington Road and Taylor fled on foot when he saw officers.
 
Officers deployed a taser but it did not make full contact and Taylor was able to brush the probes and wires away, Rodriguez said. He fought officers when they began to physically restrain him.
 
During the fight Lt. Christopher Nichols fractured a finger and SPO Gregory Gilchrist injured his elbow.
