At least two Atlanta television stations are reporting that the Barrow County boy found with a gunshot wound Wednesday afternoon has died.
Sheriff's deputies responded to Avalon Court near University Parkway, where they found the boy inside a residence. He was flown to a hospital for treatment and died last Wednesday night, according to reports.
Officials with the Barrow County School System released a statement about the boy, who attended Yargo Elementary School.
"The entire Barrow County School System family, especially the faculty, staff, and students at Yargo Elementary School, are deeply saddened by the death of one of our students Wednesday night," the statement reads.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the student’s family during this extremely difficult time."
Barrow County Sheriff Jud Smith told Channel 2 that no charges are expected in the nine-year-old's death. The boy's name has not been released.
Fox 5 also reported the boy has died.
Sheriff's Office officials have not responded to several requests from AccessWDUN for information updates.
