Last man sentenced in southeastern jewelry store heists

By Associated Press

PANAMA CITY, Fla. (AP) The final person associated with a multi-state jewelry store heist scheme is heading to prison.

A judge in Panama City sentenced 36-year-old Lewis Jones III on Thursday to 32 years in federal prison for taking part in the robberies across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee and the Carolinas.

Among the stores held up by Jones and his co-conspirators was the Zales store at North Georgia Premium Outlets on Georgia 400 in Dawson County. That robbery happened on August 5, 2015.

The News Herald (http://bit.ly/2pG8uBC ) reported Jones could have faced life in prison for his convictions, but District Judge Robert Hinkle said the thought the sentence was "sufficient.''

Jones, along with brothers Larry and Michael Gilmore, were convicted on conspiracy charges connected to the robberies. All three men are from Atlanta. Abigail Kemp, 25, of Smyrna, who testified she was recruited to carry out robberies, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 10 years. The Gilmores each received 32 year sentences.
