Map-based web page helps Forsyth County convey road project information

Forsyth County officials worked in-house to develop a new web page with hopes of making it easier for residents to get information on county transportation projects.

"This provides the citizens with a tool they can use to find details on projects that may be occurring near their home or on their commute,"  Forsyth County Director of Engineering John Cunard said for a media release.

Forsyth County Communication Coordinator Sarah Dunlap said the new offering is map-based.  The page, which is already live, came as a result as the county communications director learning of a similar map being used in other parts of the country.

"Previously we had been showing all road projects in spreadsheets that were uploaded as PDF documents on the engineering website, so it was all listed, but it wasn't very user friendly and interactive."

The new page features information on projects ranging from road widening to paving.  Dunlap said it also reflects changes fairly quickly.

"There's a nightly update that happens, so if anything gets updated by engineering, it will update to the map."

Dunlap said the page has also been designed to work on multiple devices and web browsers.

In addition to county-only projects, Dunlap said the map includes joint county/Georgia Department of Transportation work with links back to GDOT for more information.
