CLEVELAND — The Truett McConnell softball team swept Montreat Tuesday afternoon in Cleveland, 9-0 in five innings and 4-1 in game two. With the sweep, Truett McConnell ensures that they can finish no lower than eighth in the AAC, clinching a spot in the conference tournament at the end of the month.

In game one, the Bears scratched two runs across the plate in the second inning with two outs. TMU put the game away in the fourth, scoring four runs after loading the bases. Milly Martinet brought home the middle two runs on a single to right field before Reba Jones got the final run across on a sacrifice squeeze play.

Jones brought home the final two runs of the game as well on a double to left center, plating Kaitlynn Hay and Sarah Horne to end game one in the fifth.

Game two was more of a pitchers' duel as Montreat scratched a single run across in the top of the first. TMU answered in the third on a Martinet high-towering homer to left field.

The Bears got the final three runs of the doubleheader in the fifth inning. Sara Sullivan earned the first RBI on a sacrifice squeeze play before Macey Dunaway singled up the middle to bring home the final two.

TMU will jump back into action on Thursday when they travel to Reinhardt. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2 p.m.
