Atlanta media reports arrest of man in shooting of lawyer who grew up in Gainesville

Several Atlanta media outlets reported Tuesday afternoon that police had arrested a Roswell man in connection with the shooting death of an attorney in Atlanta Monday morning.

Trinh Huynh, 40, a former Gainesville resident, was killed after a man approached her from the back and shot her multiple times around 8 a.m. Monday. She was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital, where she died from her injuries.

WSB TV reported that the suspect, Raylon Browning, 39, was also wanted for stabbing two people on Sunday.

The Daily Report reported Huynh was shot as she crossed Peachtree Street, possibly on her way to MARTA. Atlanta police Lt. Ricardo Vasquez said surveillance footage captured the suspect and they believe Huynh was targeted and being followed. They haven't determined if Huynh knew the man.

“UPS was saddened to hear of the death of one of our corporate attorneys, Trinh Huynh, who joined the company last summer,” the company told the Daily Report. “We will cooperate with the Atlanta Police Department through its investigation.”

Huynh came to the United States as a refugee from Vietnam. Sources say she was a 1994 graduate of Gainesville High School where she served as class president.

A member of Gainesville First United Methodist Church told AccessWDUN that Huynh attended the church and volunteered in the Sunshine Class for mentally impaired adults.

The Daily Report also reported that Huynh was proud of her refugee status and shared that information on social media and her work on the Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network, which provides pro bono legal services to immigrant victims of human trafficking, domestic violence, sexual assault and other crimes.
