UNG's Bower named Peach Belt Pitcher of the Week

By AccessWDUN

AUGUSTA — North Georgia sophomore Steven Bower has been named the Peach Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, the league announced Monday afternoon. It is the second PBC Pitcher of the Week honor this year for Bower as he also won the award for his performance the last week in February.

Bower threw the first no-hitter in school history on Friday as he shut out Montevallo 10-0. The lefty from Lawrenceville struck out 10 while only allowing three walks, completing the game with 107 pitches thrown, 67 for strikes. Bower's no-hitter is only the fifth in a PBC conference game and the first since 2005. It is also the first no-hitter in the league this season and the first in any game by a PBC pitcher since 2014. Bower is currently third in the PBC with a 2.16 earned run average, eighth in strikeouts, and third in wins.

The Nighthawks start their longest road swing of the season tomorrow, traveling to Pensacola for a two-game set against West Florida. UNG will step back into PBC this weekend, traveling to Young Harris for a three-game series in the Battle of Blood Mountain rivalry.
