Truett softball splits DH at Union

BARBOURVILLE, Kent. — The Truett McConnell softball team split an AAC doubleheader at Union with both games ending in run-rule fashion. Game one saw the Bulldogs explode for a 13-0 five-inning win. TMU responded in game two with a 12-3 six-inning run-rule victory.

A 10-run fourth inning was the catalyst for Union in game one. Leading 3-0 through three innings of play, Union used eight hits and two TMU errors to put 10 runs on the board. The Bears loaded the bases in the top of the fifth but could not scratch a run across, ending the game in five innings.

TMU fought back quickly in the second game. After Sara Sullivan and Jaden Morrison were hit by pitches in the top of the second, the Bears used three wild pitches and a Sarah Horne single to plate three runs and take a 3-0 lead.

The score remained 3-0 until the top of the fourth. After loading the bases, Milly Martinet cleared them with a single off the wall in right-center. The Bears then loaded the bases again and were able to plate three more off a squeeze play from Morrison and a Peyton Wilson single.

The Bulldogs scored three in the bottom of the fifth to extend the game to the sixth, but the Bears put the game away by plating three more in the top of the sixth.

The Bears will take on Milligan on Sunday, April 2, with a doubleheader starting at 2 p.m. in Tennessee.
