Gainesville man arrested for murder in July 2016 hotel death of Griffin woman

A Gainesville man faces murder charges in the death of a Griffin woman at a Gainesville hotel in July 2016.

Andrew James Hollingsworth, 43, was arrested Thursday in the alleged murder of Randi Higgins Byrom, 33, of Griffin at the Hilton Garden Inn on Browns Bridge Road on July 3, 2016, according to Sgt. Kevin Holbrook, Gainesville Police spokesman.

The two parties were know to one another, and Holbrook — reached by phone — said it doesn't appear to be a random crime.

Byrom's body was discovered in the late morning hours of July 3.

"Once medical personnel arrived on scene, it was determined the female was deceased. That's when Gainesville Police began (a) death investigation. And that is what has led us to where we are nine months later," said Holbrook.

Officials are not releasing the exact details of the crime, including whether or not a weapon might have been involved.

Hollingsworth was arrested without incident following his indictment on charges of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated battery and aggravated assault.

He was booked into the Hall County Jail.
