Baseball: Jefferson takes wild 9-7 win over Stephens County

JEFFERSON — Jefferson held on for a wild 9-7 win over Stephens County Wednesday in Region 8-AAAA baseball action.

The Dragons led 6-0 going into the sixth inning but the Indians scored three in the sixth to cut the lead in half. Jefferson responded with three in the bottom of the inning but Stephens County scored four in the seventh and left the bases loaded as the Dragons escaped with their third straight win overall and second straight over the Indians.

Patrick Hickox got the win for Jefferson (13-5, 4-1 Region 8-AAAA) giving up three runs on 11 hits in five innings. Zac Corbin allowed four runs in 1 1/3 but none were earned as Stephens County (11-9, 1-4) took advantage of two big Jefferson errors in the seventh inning.

Chaz Evans had a hit and two RBI for Jefferson. Sammy Elegreet, Billy Finch, Lane Watkins, Corbin, Vinny Farley, and Kasen Rainey all had one hit for the Dragons.

Kole Rogers and Griff Pruitt led a 15-hit Indians attack with three hits apiece.

The two teams' will complete their three-game series on Friday in Jefferson.
