Truett softball sweeps Talladega

CLEVELAND — The Truett McConnell softball team took two games from Talladega Tuesday afternoon, defeating the Tornadoes, 5-2, in game one before a 4-2 win in game two. The Bears are now 20-9 overall.

After a Tornado run in the top of the second, the Bears responded with three in the bottom of the second. After loading the bases, MIlly Martinet tied the game with a RBI single that plated Peyton Wilson. Reba Jones followed that up with a two-RBI single on the next pitch that plated Kaitlynn Hay and Olivia Darley.

Talladega added another run in the top of the fourth, but again TMU responded. Darley started the scoring with a double to the fence in left that plated Hay. Martinet then plated Darley on her second RBI single of the day to get to the final score.

Taylor Nix earned the win after pitching four innings and scattering four hits. Bethany Hyde earned the save with three innings of relief and five strikeouts.

In game two, the Bears started the scoring in the bottom of the first inning. After a leadoff walk to Hay, she would move around the bases and score on a wild pitch to give TMU a 1-0 lead.

Talladega scored a run in the top of the third, but as the Bears did most of the day, they answered with runs in the bottom half of the inning. Sarah Horne scored the first run of the inning on a wild pitch before Sara Sullivan singled to left center to earn two RBI as Martinet and Jones came home to give the Bears their fourth run of the game.

Carson Hagin earned the complete game win, scattering four hits and six strikeouts.

TMU hits the road this weekend for two AAC doubleheaders, starting with a Friday twinbill at Milligan. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
